At the North of the Loire valley, is located, in the department of Sarthe, the Chateau du Lude. At the gates of Anjou, Lude Castle reflects four centuries of French architecture. Defensive fortress, it was transformed into elegant and luxurious residence in the Renaissance and the Classical period.
Since the 18th century, this castle of the Loire has been inhabited by the same family that opened it to the public.
The visit of the castle is in the form of a guided tour. A visit booklet for children is available. The castle is richly furnished and its visit is very interesting. Besides the castle itself, which is worth seeing, its park, gardens and vegetable gardens extend over 6 hectares. They are classified as “remarkable gardens”.
The castle is open from mid-March to late October. Visits for groups, however, are possible throughout the year.
Many activities are organized within the property. Animations are organized in the castle for children and adults such as Renaissance dance shows and concerts, exhibitions, gourmet activities…
Other events are planned outside. Indeed, every year, takes place the gardeners festival during a weekend (month of June). During this weekend, many activities are offered: carriage ride in the park, tree climbing, plant, tools and organic local products sale, undergrounds and mazes discovery … During this festival, the literature prize “P.J. Redoute” is awarded to the best gardening book of the year, in the presence of authors and publishers.
